Racon (radar transponder beacon)
Buoys & beaconsAdvanced
A Racon legend means the aid returns a coded response on radar.
What it means
A magenta radio circle and a legend such as 'Racon(Z) 10M' identify a radar transponder and give its Morse identification and nominal range.
Why it matters
The response appears as a coded radial trace from the aid. Presentation depends on radar settings and equipment.
