Minor light

Lights

A small position circle with a magenta flare marks a minor light — pier heads, jetties, small marks.

What it means
A small position circle with a magenta flare marks a minor light: breakwater, pier-head, and channel lights without a major structure. The flare points away from the exact position circle.
Why it matters
The circle, not the flare, is the light's true position — measure from the circle. Minor lights have shorter ranges, so do not expect to raise them far offshore.
