Kelp

Dangers

Squiggly weed tufts mark kelp — and kelp very often grows on rock close beneath the surface.

What it means
Wavy tuft symbols mark patches of kelp or heavy weed on or near the surface.
Why it matters
Kelp needs rock to anchor to, so charted kelp is a strong hint of foul, rocky bottom close below. It also fouls propellers and drags anchors — treat kelp patches as hazards, not scenery.
