Depth contour

Depths & contoursCore

A continuous line joins positions of equal charted depth.

What it means
A continuous contour joins positions of equal charted depth. Its value is printed in a break in the line.
Why it matters
Use contours to understand the shape of shoal water, but inspect individual soundings and survey quality too. A contour is not a guaranteed clearance boundary.
