Two prolonged + two short: “I intend to overtake you on your port side” — narrow channel, International Rules.
You hear: 2 prolonged blasts, then 2 short blasts.
Meaning
“I intend to overtake you on your port side.” Sounded in a narrow channel or fairway when overtaking can take place only if the vessel ahead takes action to permit safe passing (Rule 9(e)(i)).
